How to categorize 70cm dolls
Within the BJD hobby, we commonly encounter three main size categories: 1/6 (YOSD, approximately 27cm), 1/4 (MSD, approximately 42cm), and 1/3 (SD, approximately 60cm). But what about the majestic 70cm BJD dolls? Interestingly, many sites do not have a specific scale size for them and instead label them simply by their CM measurement. Clothing stores and online shops often classify them as 70cm/Uncle/SD17.
The term “SD17” originates from VOLKS, referring to their dolls that stood at a height of 65cm. On the other hand, the designation “Uncle” may have stemmed from Dragon Dolls, who used it to describe their larger dolls. While there are suggestions that 70cm dolls might be considered closer to 1/2 scale, this remains debated as the size still seems somewhat small for true 1/2 scale proportions.
Regardless, most BJD companies provide detailed size information for their larger dolls, including the recommended eye and wig sizes. So rest assured, you can easily find the necessary accessories to perfectly complement these grandiose creations.
Buying clothes/accessories for 70cm and up dolls
In the past 70cm dolls were a highly uncommon size and only a few companies sold them. Nowadays almost every doll company out there sells a few 70cm dolls. The really amazing thing is that each company varies in size. Some companies sell 70cm dolls, others do 65,72, and even 75cm.
With this amount of diversity out means that clothes shopping can be a challenge.
Most stores out there today do offer a 70cm line. It is highly recommended that you really look at the measurements before buying. The doll companies vary in this size category so a pant that is labeled 70cm could fit one perfectly and fit another doll too short.
One thing you can sleep easy with is that the shoes are pretty universal. A lot of the larger dolls have similar feet and you will see a lot of shoes just labeled for 70cm dolls. Personally I would still see if you can view the measurements to make sure they will fit before purchasing.

Affordable 70cm dolls under $500!
The price for these dolls will be no joke considering the amount of resin being put to make them. Fret not though because there are some companies that make them at a very affordable price.
The dolls I have listed below are going to be for blank dolls. This means they will come with just a pair of eyes and usually have no “makeup” or faceup on them. The benefit of getting the dolls this way is that you can really customize them to be the character you want.
Resinsoul and Bobobie
Most affordable would be of course Bobobie & Resinsoul. These sister companies are very well known in the community for making highly affordable dolls in all sizes and colors! Their 70cm dollies fall in the $200-220 price range. They offer girl and boys in this size rang too!
Impldoll
Next we have Impldoll, a company that is known for their fantasy dolls. They offer their 70cm dolls starting at $380 on Alice’s Collection. I actually really like their selection of 70cm dolls. They offer some really unique faces with lots of character.
Doll Leaves
One of my personal favorites is Doll Leaves and they too offer some 70cm dolls at great prices! They can be found on Alice’s Collection . Their dolls start at $420 but usually have sales and events where you can snag one for a great deal.
Doll Family
I really love Doll Family dolls and they offer some gorgeous looking 70cm dolls! You are going to want to look at both sides of the company- Doll Family H and A (same company with different artists on A and H). Their price ranges $435-$495 for a 70cm doll. The great thing about them is that they tend to have lots of sales through Alice’s Collection. Make sure to keep an eye and catch them around seasonal times to snag a good deal.
(TD) Telesthesia & Dragon Doll
Looking for some major shelf eye candy? TD has some dolls for you! I particularly like their Leopard Xun Jian. Their dolls are $450 on Alice’s Collection but are currently on sale right now for $405.
They have a large variety of nice looking fantasy and regular themed dolls. TD is a great company and you should really give them a look…especially the leopard haha!
