Things to consider before buying

Prices for 1/3 or SD sized dolls vary throughout the companies. An average price is probably $400-500. HOLD UP! Don’t stress though because today I am going to show you some dolls that are under that average price. I will also show you some that are on that lower end of the average price.

Don’t forget!

Unless you are buying a full set doll, most dolls will only come with a basic set of eyes and that’s it. Here are some other things you might want to buy along side your new doll.

It will be nice having all these things along side your doll when it comes in! Now let’s take a look at some affordable companies for 1/3 scale dolls.

Let’s look at the dolls!

  1. Resinsoul/Bobobie

I think a lot of peoples first suggestion would be Resinsoul or Bobobie. I will put them here on this list for you all, but I will warn you that they need some work when you get them in. They are by far the most affordable out there on the market right now but upon arrival they need to be restrung and will need some sueding in order to maintain poses. It is a blessing in disguise though because eventually you will need to restring your dolls. Getting to practice on an affordable doll is way less stressful then doing it on a limited edition or high priced doll that could potentially get damaged in the process.

The first doll I ordered was actually a Resinsoul Gang and he was $200. I got a lot of my firsts out of the way using him and it helped me feel better when I got other dolls in that needed work. Fastforward to today and I am actually really surprised in the variety and options that Resinsoul and Bobobie give you! Did you know that you can actually give them a color you want and they can cast a doll in that custom color? WOW!

2. Angel of Dream

They are well known for grabbing the attention of the community by making full teeth smiling dolls and even have a pregnant BJD! But don’t let their quirky dolls turn you away. The prices for Angel of Dream dolls is very easy on the wallet.

Their 1/3 or 60cm dolls can start at $265 and they offer a variety of different sculpts with different faces. If you were ever looking for a smiling BJD, I think Angel of Dream has the most pageant perfect smiling dolls ever.

3. Impldoll

Another company that offers insanely affordable dolls is Impldoll. Base prices for SD or 1/3 dolls with them is $275. Impldoll is known for their fantasy dolls they make, so if you are into that I highly recommend that you check out their other dolls! They also offer larger scale dolls from 65cm to 72cm that are some of the most affordable prices I have seen out in the market today.

They are worth a look and have a variety of sculpts to choose from.

4. Doll Family A/H

Going closer and closer to the average price we have Doll Family. Don’t get confused with A/H they are sister labels (essentially the same company).

I really love the faces and bodies that Doll Family has to offer. After a few years of owning my Resinsoul Gang I switched his body to a Doll Family gen 3 body and have never looked back.

If you are looking for some pretty boys and gorgeous gals, Doll Family has got you covered! Prices are in the $330s-$360 and are well worth the price. I also happen to own a LingYu and he is one of my favorite dolls in my collection. (Don’t tell my other dolls)

5. Mystic Kids

Creeping higher and higher to that average price we have Mystic Kid doll. A fan favorite of the Junky Spot and can be found carried on their site.

Their dolls have very dreamy and calm looking faces that are so serene. The resin quality of the dolls is exquisite, and they are beautiful dolls.

Prices for 1/3 or SD dolls can start at $368 for a Mystic Kids doll. I have an Ellis and he is one of my nicest eye candy dolls on my shelf. Mystic Kids also offers dolls that go beyond the 60cm size and stand at 70cm. One of the ones you have to oogle is the 70cm fox guy. Yessssssssssssssssss.

I think it is important to weigh all your options when you are looking for BJDs. I know there are a lot of dolls to choose from and it can get overwhelming at times. However, just because a doll has a cheaper price tag than others, it doesn’t make them a lesser BJD. You really need to go with your gut feelings and if your doll is higher than average then save save save. IF you ant to dip your toe in and get something that won’t strain you financially, then give it a go.
