7 Essential Tips for a Stress-Free Move with BJD Dolls! (Experience from 5 moves!)

The new hobby room!

First off I apologize for the hiatus I took from the blog. There was crazyness everywhere and I was living with my mom while my home was being built. I was there for 7 months (which thanks mom for letting us crash there) and finally got to move towards mid November. I have been unpacking boxes and decorating the new house.

Doll room still being put together

It was hard for me to do videos at my mom’s house because I really didn’t feel motivated to make blog entries or videos since the area was kind of small and it really wasn’t MY space. Now that I have the new house and the new room I feel a lot more pumped!

Hubby even installed some really cool lights in the room Alexa can control it all!

I am still trying to organize my dolls in the way I want them to be and at the same time utilize the space that I have. For the most part everyone is out and on the shelf already! I also was very relieved to have found Michael! (he was kinda missing for a while and was actually in long term storage along with a few other dolls!)

What I can say is that I learned a lot during these moves and safe ways for me to transfer and store my dolls.

Tips for moving with BJDs

Back on topic! Are you gearing up for a move and feeling anxious about how to safely transport your beloved BJDs? Fret not! I’ll be sharing 7 invaluable tips to ensure a smooth and worry-free relocation with your treasured ball-jointed dolls.

From packing and securing delicate parts to choosing the right materials, we’ve got you covered. Get ready to embark on a journey of seamless transition as we guide you through the art of moving with BJDs. Let’s make this adventure a breeze, ensuring your dolls arrive at their new home unscathed and ready for more fun times!

Doll boxes:

  • Utilize doll boxes for secure storage during the move. These boxes provide a protective environment and prevent any accidental damage.

Alternative storage

  • If you don’t have doll boxes, consider using a large suitcase. Wrap your dolls in soft towels to provide cushioning and protection during transit.

Climate-controlled storage

  • If you anticipate storing your dolls for an extended period, invest in a climate-controlled storage unit. This ensures a stable environment, protecting your dolls from extreme temperature fluctuations and humidity. Your other belongings will also benefit from this type of storage.

Affordable storage options

  • If climate-controlled storage is too expensive, consider temporarily housing your dolls with a trusted friend or relative who can keep them in their original boxes. This will provide some level of protection until you find a more suitable storage solution.

Face protectors

  • It’s crucial to use face protectors to safeguard your dolls’ delicate features. These protectors prevent lashes from getting smooshed and ensure that faceups remain intact without smearing, rubbing off, or chipping during the move.

Make a list

  • Before packing, create a detailed inventory of the dolls you own. During unpacking, use this list for a roll call to ensure that all your dolls have safely made the move without any mishaps.

Unpacking and damage assessment

  • Take your time when unpacking your dolls. Carefully inspect each doll for any damage that may have occurred during the move. If you notice any issues, be prepared to either repair them yourself or commission a professional to restore them to their former glory.

Moving on

When I did start getting settled into my new home I saw the massive amount of BJD boxes I had. Since this is going to be pretty much our forever home I honestly thought…”Is there a point to keeping the boxes now?” I really don’t see myself selling my dolls anytime soon either.

I went ahead and even did a poll on my recent stream and asked if I should keep them or not. Surprisingly it was basically a 50% vote for keep and 50% vote for throw. Since my space is limited I did start to say goodbye to my doll boxes. I honestly need the space. In the past two houses I kept them and they literally did nothing but gather dust in the closet (and take up a butt ton of space).

I have gotten rid of a lot of the larger boxes and am working on the MSD ones now. I am pretty much checking for COAs and the pillows. I figured I should at least keep the pillows in case I go to a doll meet and need to pack them nicely.

What about you? Do you keep your doll boxes or do you Marie Kondo them and say goodbye? Tell me in the comments section down below!
