BJDs Under $100

One thing that stops people in their tracks with this hobby is the price. Some BJDs are very expensive and when you have to tack on the accessories needed to boot, most people might think they need to whip out the Ramen for the next few months. I am here to show you some BJDs that are very affordable and to make it sweeter they are all under $100.

Hujoo- ABS is your friend

Hujoo also known as BJD Shop, is a company based out in Korea and they make BJDs out of not only Resin but ABS as well. If you are not familiar what ABS is, you can think of it as a dear cousin of resin. Resin and ABS are both types of plastics and where resin is more delicate and almost like porcelain, ABS is more durable and has a more plastic feel to it.

ABS BJDs are great because you still get to customize them like you would a resin BJD. They have eye sockets and head caps just like other resin dollies. Hujoo dolls are also strung with elastic just like their resin counterparts. Did you know that they are also less likely to yellow? I have owned my ABS dollies for almost 10 years now and have not seen a change in color yet! Because they are a hard plastic they are very sturdy. You can literally drop this doll on the floor and see little to no damage. The major plus to ABS dolls are that they are easy on the wallet.

Below are just a few of my personal favorites along with their price.

Berry $37.00–26cm Doll ABS
Suve $25.00– 12cm Doll ABS
Lilly $75.00– 26.5cm Doll ABS

I think more and more people are warming up to ABS dolls. It is definitely a newer material that is being used compared to vinyl and resin. They are a great choice for someone on a budget.

Bobobie

When I first jumped into the BJD hobby I went through several companies. I eventually stumbled upon Bobobie and fell in love with their dolls. They are made of resin, offer different skin tones, and are crazy affordable. Bobobie is a company that is based in China. Known for making a wide variety of dolls in shapes and sizes, they are a great BJD for anyone looking to dip their foot into the BJD waters.

Once you do navigate their page you will notice some of their older sculpts company photos aren’t the greatest. I highly suggest googling the sculpt and see what other people have done with these dolls. The company photos don’t do them justice but I can tell you that they are dolls with hidden potential.

Also something to note, they have a sister company called ResinSoul (http://www.resinsoul.com/) and their inventory is similar and offer a couple of different sculpts.

Check out these dollies under $100

Bei and Isabella $100 each–27cm doll
Erin $68.00–15cm doll
Yu $75.00- 15cm doll

I feel like Bobobie and ResinSoul are such great dolls that are low-cost. I know a majority of their dolls are actually under $250 which is insane! You can actually get a 1/3 scale doll for only $200! Also, did I mention the color choices? There is a grand total of 12 colors to choose from and you can request colors for any of their dolls.

Bobobie is a great choice when it comes to being economical!

Some other thrifty options to explore

Mix and Match

Most companies sell bodies and heads separately which can give you the option to mix and match. You will need to do some homework on skin tone matches between companies if you mix heads and bodies. Buying a head and body separately can help you customize your dream doll further and also help you save some cash if you buy parts at separate times. Here are some dolly heads and bodies that are under $100.

Mystic Kids Nicole $45.00- 1/4 Scale Head
Kids Sky Coral $45.00- 1/4 Scale Head

Here are some bodies that I found that are under $100

Imp Boy Body $80.00-
1/6 body
HuajingDoll through
Alice’s Collection $98.00 -1/6 body

There are many people out there that like to mix and match BJD heads and bodies. You can check with other BJD owners online to see what their experiences are with skin tone matching. Or you can simple google BJD skin comparisons and see photos people have taken of different resins side by side.

Marketplace/Second hand

This hunting method will take more elbow grease and homework on your part. You will want to make sure that you check their feedback through multiple places (Den of Angels/Facebook/Instagram) and always use a safe money service like Paypal.

Here are some links to some marketplaces:

BJD Addicts Sales and Commissions Page
Image may contain: 1 person, text that says 'Please read and follow rules -NO RECASTS group BJD Adoption NO RECAST'

Den of Angels
Den of Angels online forum

Most of these places will require that you create an account which is very simple to do. Den Of Angels has a waiting list from time to time or will sometimes even requires that you have a referral pass from a friend that is already a part of the forum. The online communities work very hard to keep their sales pages safe and will have their own sets of rules for posting and buying. Makes sure you read through their regulations before moving onto buying.

Ebay

You can find great deals here as well but I will warn you that there is a big market of recasts on ebay as well. If you are not familiar with recasts, in short they are dolls that are not from the actual company and are essentially counterfeits. To help ensure you do not buy a recast by mistake you will need to double check to see if the doll will come with a certificate of authenticity or some proof that it is legitimately from the actual company. The market changes from time to time on Ebay so if you choose this route you will just need to search periodically.

Here are some safe ebay stores to check out:

As I did research for this article Ebay seems to have gotten significantly smaller from when I first started the hobby in 2009. It seems that people still utilize it, but not as frequently as they used to.

BJD Conventions and meet-ups

One more diamond in the rough would be going to your local BJD meet up and conduct a swap/sale meet. There is nothing better than getting to see the doll first before you buy it. Swap/sales meets are very popular in the BJD community and you can get great deals not only on dolls, but doll accessories as well. Hand in hand with meet-ups are BJD conventions. There are typically sales conducted at BJD Conventions and people look to sell their dolls and accessories there as well. You might even want to check your local toy/doll shows in your area as BJDs have popped up there from time to time. It’s a great way to hear first hand from the previous owner on what types of eyes, clothes, or wigs they have tried for their doll that you could potentially buy.

Is it possible to find dolls under $100?

Yes! Finding affordable dolls is easy to do. Finding dolls under $100 is also achievable. What I hope that people gather from this is that no matter what your budget is, the BJD Market is vast enough right now that you can start off really simple with something that can go easy on your bank account without having to break it. I will always encourage people to go with what they really want even if it does take time for them to save up the money to buy their dream doll. Hopefully the options I have provided will give you a good start or enable you to try the hobby if you were uncertain.

If you have sailed the vast waters of BJD sales and discovered a great deal, share down below in the comments section. I also would love to hear if there are other places that you have found great deals from as well.
