Recast Vinyl Dolls! OH NO!

Things are about to get sus

I was recent years old when I found out there were actual recast vinyl and ABS/PVC dolls. This is crazy because up to this point I only thought they existed in resin dolls. I didn’t even think it was possible to recast dolls in vinyl. Boy was I wrong.

How did I even find out?

In one of my videos I had a person in the comments section asking about EVA BJDs. I had heard of them before and saw them on Amazon during one of my many browsing sessions. I always thought they were interesting because they were labeled as BJDs but are considered off topic on most forums/social media community pages because they are hinge joint dolls.

I had to learn more! So I started researching them and other dolls similar to them. I even consorted with my buddy Emory from the Junky Spot to see if he had heard of anything about them. After some digging he found a blog post and shared it with me. It spoke about EVA BJDs and other similar companies. To my shock, they were showing some of the resin companies and vinyl companies that they copied. I was flabbergasted. It then snowballed into me learning about other dolls that had been recast into vinyl or PVC/ABS dolls.

Disclaimer!

I feel like I really just dipped my toe into all of this. The doll community has been so AWESOME and has been sharing photos and comments ever since I started talking about it on Dolly Talk Tuesday on my YouTube. I do not know everything but this is kind of what I have gathered so far.

What dolls or companies are in question?

  • Ye Luoli/Night Lolita
  • XinYi/XinYiWawa
  • Ucanaan
  • EVA BJD
  • Doris Doll/ Kilig

I know there are a TON more on Aliexpress and some don’t have like a company name per say behind them. What I have learned so far is that a majority of these dolls are actually ABS/PVC, though there are some dolls that do have vinyl parts as well.

Now the confusing thing that comes into play is if whether or not these companies are getting certain parts made through partnerships or if they are sharing manufactures for parts. I have heard of Obitsu making parts for other companies but there is nothing that I could flat out find saying that they aided in any of these dolls.

One of the bodies that seems to be circulated

I have also learned that a lot of these companies could be sharing the same body or acting as resellers. Not to mention that several of these companies have bought out others. I have read that EVA BJD now owns Night Lolita and Ye Luoli. In another place where I was researching I read that UCanaan bought out Doris Doll and Kilig Doll. There is a whole bunch of crazy things that are going on that add to the madness!

The information I am sharing today I feel like is still expanding and I am learning more and more from people as they reach out to me.

Without further ado let’s take a look at some of these companies and their dolls.

Ye Luoli/Night Lolita

Night Lolita was brought up into question but several people said that they were pretty clear. The only thing that I took notice of was that some of the bodies they use look similar to other dolls. But does this make it recast just based on the body?

Image from Idollism on Tumblr

Well this brings us back to the weird shenanigans on who has partnerships with who. There was talks saying that Night Lolita got bought out by EVA which would explain why some parts look similar. But there are other images where the bodies look totally different.

1/3 Night Lolita Body

So again the madness settles in…are they all just using off brand bodies and then just selling them with a different head and BAM you have a different doll? As far as copying anything of a resin doll I couldn’t find anything for Night Lolita.

Looking at XinYi/XinYiWawa

Now this is just odd to me. There was only a few things I dug up when I did my initial search. Mind you, a lot of these dolls don’t have like official sites. They sell their dolls through different platforms like Amazon, Aliexpress, and Taobao.

When I first looked them up all I found was their smaller dolls.

27cm dolls

Again not too much I could tell from these smaller ones if anything was copied per say from our larger resin friends. The bodies kind of did have some parts that looked like Obitsu dolls but nothing major other than that.

Obitsu Bodies

Fast forward to a couple days later when a friend sent me this link from Aliexpress.

A couple of people have reached out to me and said that they were pretty clear so I am not sure if I am just looking too much into this but these 1/3 do look oddly familiar.

Ucanaan Dolls /Doris/Kilig

Next up to the plate is Ucanaan dolls. There is a whole lotta stuff going on with this company. To add to the drama I read that this was yet another company that bought out another familiar company which is Kilig/Doris Dolls. Not 100% on what is factual on this but if you look at their Amazon store front page you will see some of the Doris dolls there too.

Let’s first look at those bodies. The smaller scale ones look eerily similar to LUTS MONST PVC body. Which by the way, WHOA I never new that LUTS even ventured into this avenue.

Very similar looks in my opinion. Let’s take a look at some of the heads. A lot of them look like they could easily be other resin doll heads but at this point I am uncertain of which sculpts.

I don’t know about you but I get that “I’ve seen you before” feeling

One that a lot of people speculate to be stolen is the Doris or Kilig heads. Several people speculate that they were taken from the Asleep Eidolon Moira sculpt.

Another close match I think. There was even some people pointing out that the hands looked very similar as well.

The bodies for the larger scale dolls get weird too. The look is so similar to other dolls in this realm that it really makes you wonder if they are all sharing the same body.

EVA BJD

Super sus Dream Fairy Dolls

Another doll that can be found on Amazon is EVA BJD. This company has been in the eye of BJD collectors with their release of the Dream Fairy Collection. People have created overlays with the heads saying that they are recasts of the Angell Studio Liu Rushi head.

If that wasn’t enough there are tons of comparisons on the actual parts. The hands look similar to that of VOLKS and Angell Studio.

Super sus if you ask me. This is such a shame honestly because I thought it would be cool to look into EVA BJDs since they are on Amazon and you could get a 1/3 scale doll for essentially under $100.

Ok so the bodies…very confusing yet again because they do look similar to other dolls out there on the market.

1/3 EVA Body
1/3 Eva Body

The 1/3 bodies have knee caps that remind of the Obitsu dolls but other than that I feel like they are just a reseller of this body based of photos of other dolls that are similar to EVA BJD. So again it is one of those where they just all buy this body and slap a different head on and BAM a new doll is born.

1/4 Eva Body

The 1/4 bodies and 1/6 bodies look pretty standard to me but the hand poses that are offered are pretty similar to Obitsu and VOLKs options. They do look chubbier though so I am not sure if they are really a copy or something that just looks similar.

Bonus Round: Dolls on AliExpress and Taobao

For the bonus round here I have some dolls that were found on AliExpress and Taobao. The crazy thing is there are SO many dolls on these sites that people that may be new to the hobby may not understand what they are getting is a recast since they are not labeled as that. You can these recasts made from both resin and PVC/ABS.

A Lati yellow head that is just labeled as a 1/6 head

Below is a picture of a Napi Doll recast. I am super dumbfounded to see that someone can recast these and sell them in ABS/PVC for $2 when the actual legit company sells the dolls for $100.

You haven’t seen crazy yet! There is even a Snow Miku from VOLKS that is being sold on AliExpress. It is labeled just as a “Super Big Miku Figure”. I feel like this is leaning more towards bootleg than recast, but the images are astounding.

Info from Nicole

Even down to the packaging it is almost exactly the same!

After translating a part of this thread I learned that it was cast in a similar material but the bootleg was harder and not as soft. The color was a darker color as well. The items that came with her were also questionable as some items did not have their details centered at all.

Should you buy any of these dolls?

Initially I was so tempted to buy some of these dolls because they were so cool looking and I thought I could really customize them. A lot of them come full set too which is nice.

HOWEVER, since there is so much shenanigans with the possibility of some of the companies taking parts and heads from other companies it makes me personally not want to support them. I have also heard from people that they are actually cheaply made and are not that great at posing despite what the photos show.

I think that if you are wanting a affordable Vinyl doll that can pose and won’t break the bank you should definitely check out Obitsu.

Obitsu Doll

You can pick and choose what you want and easily make something in the same price range as these dolls. If you want to learn more about them please check out my Ultimate Obitsu Guide.

Have you purchased any of these dolls? Do you recognize any of the other dolls from these companies? Please share what you know as I feel like this is something not a lot of people talk about and I would love to learn more!
