Kai stirred in bed and woke up abruptly expecting to see a hospital room. He let out a huge breath he didn’t know he was holding in as he looked around at his familiar walls of his bedroom.

“I guess…their anniversary is coming up…” Kai said to himself rubbing his brow.

The anniversary of his parents passing. It had been already 5 years since that horrible day. He was 15 at the time and Umi his younger sister was only 3. It was supposed to be a fun family trip but instead tragically ended with them as orphans. Luckily their aunt and uncle from their mom’s side were there for support and to offer their home. Life went on and Kai’s aunt and uncle took the best care of little Umi and Kai. They sent them to the best schools and gave them everything they could ever want or need. Kai would be forever grateful of their generosity and worked hard not to let them down.

So when Kai got accepted into Monarch University, one of the most prestigious schools in the country, they were so proud and excited for him. This school had state of the art everything and even had uniforms for their students, which was a bit unheard of for a college. This was THE college to go to that carried so much influence, just by having it listed on your resume gave you a 95% chance of acceptance.

Kai was living in the single student dorms which made commuting to school much easier. He enjoyed walking to school and taking in everything around him.7:32 A.M. glowed on his nightstand from his clock.

“I guess I can head to school a bit early today.” Kai got out of bed and started getting ready for his first class which actually didn’t start until 8:00 A.M.

With his uniform on and his bag packed, he gave himself one last glance in the mirror. Doing a mental checklist, he made sure he had everything. He grabbed his keys and left out the door.

As he was locking up, his vision was blurred with something pink that crashed into him full speed. He was knocked to the ground with the pink entity.

“Aiyo….” She said, her pink hair flooding Kai’s sight.

“Are you ok?” Kai asked the girl before him who was rubbing her head.

“I am so sorry! I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going! I am in a bit of rush because I just transferred and I am supposed to be meeting with the counselor in a bit, but I was trying to check my phone to see where to meet, and then I couldn’t find a map of the school, and so I was looking it up, but GOD I have to meet them at 8:00 A..M and…” The girl rattled off.

Kai helped her to her feet and wondered how something so small could have so much air in their lungs to continue talking nonstop.

“-I had such a rough time sleeping because of the jet lag, because let me tell you… traveling for 22 hrs straight is horrible, but I really wanted to come to this school because I have heard so many great things about it, and honestly I am shocked that I got accepted in the first place-” The girl with the bubblegum hair continued on until Kai pointed to his watch.

“I hate to interrupt but, you know…it’s 7:45…” Kai said tapping his watch.

“OH MY GOD I AM GOING TO BE SO LATE AND I STILL DON’T KNOW WHERE TO GO!” She burst with eyes opening wide.

“Well if it is the counselors office it isn’t that far from the dorms here…” Kai said pointing towards the general area of where the counselors were located.

The frantic girl slapped her hands together in prayer stance and bowed her head down at Kai.

“Can you please show me the way! I really don’t know where anything is and I really don’t want to be late!” She begged.

“Uh sure…it’s on the way to where I am headed I guess.” Kai said brushing off his sleeves.

“YOU’RE MY SAVIOR!” She gushed and threw her arms around him practically in tears.

“..yeah…no worries.” Kai said rather shyly not used to the forwardness of this girl he just met who was gripping him by the waist tightly.

She released him and beamed.

“What’s your name?” She asked walking beside him.

“Kai…Kai Takada. What’s yours?” Kai said leading her down a paved path that would eventually pass the counselors office.

“Yue Huang! It’s nice to meet you!” She said with a bright smile.

Kai extended a hand out to a large brown brick building that had the school emblem on it which was a crown along with the letter “M” for Monarch. There was a small plaque by the door that said ‘Counselors Department’.

“Here it is.” Kai said to her and she took in a deep breath.

“I’m saved! Thank you so much! I hope I can bump into you again sometime soon! Well, maybe not exactly like how we did this morning, but you know what I mean.” Yue said realizing what she said.

Kai gave a slight nod and then started walking off to his own class. He didn’t even realize the slight smile he carried with him. The dark dream he had this morning completely gone from his thoughts.
