LTD in 1998. They released their first Azone doll being the Sahra doll. The company itself makes dolls ranging in size from 1/12 to 1/3 scale. They are also very popular for their collaborations with various anime/pop culture themes. The dolls are made mainly with PVC and feature a soft vinyl head with rooted hair. They are recently starting to branch out into open eyed heads but a majority of their dolls come with painted faces. There are several places where you can purchase Azone dolls. Obitsu dolls come in many different sizes and with a variety of optional parts. They make dolls ranging in different sizes from as small as 11cm to the newest one that is a whooping 150cm. The bodies are made of ABS and feature different soft vinyl parts. The variety of optional pieces are vast! You can get heads that are open eyed, with rooted hair and not rooted, different hands, and much more. You can purchase Obitsu from ObitsuShop and Parabox. You can also purchase them from distributors as well such as Junky Spot or The Doll Peddlar. Let's Compare! There are lots of great things about both dolls. I don't think that one is necessarily better than the other. At the end of the day it really depends on what you are looking for and what you want. Bodies The bodies are very different when you look at them side by side. Again, Obitsu offers a variety of bodies so in the photo above I have a soft body with a hard body. All three bodies feature moving joints and pegs in the arms and legs. All three dolls also have several points of movement. Azone has a swivel thigh where Obitsu has it more towards the knee. Legs/Knees legs on bottom are Azone The knees are very interesting. Azone has a very clean looking knee when it is extended. When the knee is bent it looks like a split. The Obitsu knees are very similar to human knee caps. They look boxy when extened and when bent it appears like a knee cap. Elbows Azone right Obitsu left The elbows look different on both dolls as well. Again, Azone goes for a more subtle approach and looks like the knee joint but smaller. The Obitsu has elbow piece that looks like a knee cap again. They both move nicely and can bend completely in. Hands Obitsu left Azone right Let's talk about the hands. Azone hands are very stiff and they can only rotate left and right. Obitsu hands have another peg in that area and it works like a wrist. It can bend up and down and can swivel left and right. The Obitsu hands are also very soft and the fingers and be squished to fit into props (cups, weapons, etc). Torso Azone bottom Obitsu top The torso on the Azone can swivel from right to left and has a very solid feel. The Obitsu bodies can also move side to side as well as forward and back. Unlike the Azone with the solid trunk the Obitsu has different ranges of motion since it has a floating piece in the center along with its internal skeleton. Sitting/Standing Obitsu with magnet feet on left. Azone with their feet on right (no magnets) Both dolls can sit and stand very nicely. I think they can be posed easily on a shelf and sit nicely in a chair. There is the option with Obitsu dolls to buy them with the magnetic feet which enables them to pull off even more amazing poses (such as standing on one leg, leaning in different directions, etc). Overall thoughts If we were looking for a doll that can really pose and move around, I feel Obitsu really does that well. If you are looking for a characterized doll and want everything wrapped up in a bow for you, then Azone may be the way to go. Again, I think it boils down to what you are looking for. Azone makes some really cool collaboration dolls and recently started collaborating with Obitsu to make some dolls too! Both are great dolls and I think they are a lot of fun to have!
